I've heard from some of my friends that this has been a very mild winter. Seems to me that the daffodil should be blooming, trees starting to flower. I love Europe in Spring! The transition from the gray skies and fluffy coats, when you're walking down a street and turn a corner and WHAM! A blast of color leaps into your eyes...

He eventually had to get some chicken wings and fixings brought to him by some relative who is on a military base somewhere there. He sent people out in the town to buy chicken wings but supposedly they couldn't find any. It just seemed totally unrealistic. Why didn't they go to the supermarket.
Then I recalled my problems with finding 'natural' chicken here in Finland. When i first moved here I could only find pieces, breasts or legs & thighs in packages with marinade sauce covering them. Actually, I don't think I have seen chicken wings being sold as pieces not marinated. Well, except at the butchers in the market hall.
Anyway, fried chicken is one type of food that i usually crave and there is only one place in Finland, 'Southern Friend Chicken' that makes it. The American KFC has not yet come here. I've eaten at KFC in Amsterdam, St. Petersburg and Paris. Are there not any fried chicken places or KFC in Germany?

Georgiane, this round's winner, made a very interesting point for the next contests. She mentioned about having themes for each round. It's certainly exciting, but I wonder if it would not be even more interesting if we let ourselves let the common theme emerge?

I mention that because I certainly believe in 'group minds' everytime people assemble to do something creative together. In this past contest, for instance, it's pretty clear to me that, with some outstanding exceptions, the overall theme was Water. Curt's still waters from the fountain, my Ría, Dragolar's Thames, Denisey's Lugano shores, the Catalan coast in T-bird's lenses, for instance.

The reason I ask is that my Motorola L6 seemed to get spotty reception at times in the old stone buildings. This did not happen so much in Rome, yet while Florence where the buildings were a bit older, the coverage was garbled at times.

Who are the Space Hijackers?

The Space Hijackers are a bunch of misfit troublemakers who have been
kicking up a storm since 1999. We have held parties for 3000 people
on the
London Underground circle line, we have tricked Nike Town into a half
price sale by printing our own “EVERYTHING INSTORE HALF PRICE TODAY”
T-shirts and tidying up. We have bought a boat and invaded an island in
the Docklands in London to host a pirate party and we have smashed the
Capitalists for six in our midnight Anarchist Vs Capitalist cricket
tournaments.

What’s this all about?

There comes a time in every activist groups development when they
realise
that there is something missing in their set up. We have been
striving to
cause trouble, save the world and wind up the powers that be for 8 years
now. However we still don't own a tank, or indeed any kind of armoured
personnel carrier.
Please help us right this wrong.

Why do you need a tank?

Every two years the ExCeL exhibition centre in East London plays host to
DSEi, Europe’s largest arms fair. Representatives from all of the major
arms manufacturers pimp their wares to rogue states, impoverished
nations
and invading armies with the full support of the UK government. In fact
the police firearms squad tried to raid the fair in 2005 only to be
turned
back by the government.

On the last two occasions we have attempted to infiltrate the fair,
embarrass the dealers and cause a ruckus. In 2003, we caught the
trains to
the fair with the arms dealers. Suited up and looking business-like we
pulled prosthetic limbs (arms) from our cases and attempted to sell them
to the dealers. In 2005, worried about their obsession with phallic
objects such as rockets we attempted to sell sex toys to the dealers to
make up for their lack of “weapons capabilities”. Generally however
we are
escorted out by the police.

This year we have decided to take things up a notch or ten. We want
to buy
a tank, we want to drive it into the arms fair! We don’t want to be
shoved
around by burly policemen any more. Can’t really say much more at the
moment, but you get the gist.

What about after the Arms Fair?

Assuming they haven’t tested their anti tank missiles on us. We are an
enterprising group, with mischief simply brimming out of our beer
fuelled
brains. We have many many many plans for the tank in the future,
especially once we have kitted it out with a full sound system (which
has
already been donated!)

How can I help?

You can help by lending us one of your tanks if you have any spare.
You can help by offering us free secure parking for our tank.
You can help by lending us your mechanic skills to turn our gas guzzler
into a bio diesel green tank.

Of course the simplest way of helping is by giving us a small amount of
money towards the tank or by passing this email on to your rich mates
and
getting them to donate us a slightly larger amount of money.

Beginning in March next year, we are inviting 9 people to cruise from Bodrum, Turkey along the Turkish coast, Cyprus, Athens, Alexandria on a share expenses basis (very, very inexpensive). We began a documentary in Paris and Turkey last year, and now as it gets warmer in Turkey we are going to complete it. We have a US distributor, and everyone involved will share in profits. It could be quite profitable for you and a real life changer. We are in pre-production of three others...one on black jazz in Paris after WWII until now. We have a Turkish captain/crew/cook on our 70' Gulet, 6 double staterooms still available, all with their own head (toilet and shower). Qualifications? Simply to be able to get along with people. Age? Our producer is 60, our editor is 25. Age inmaterial if you are young in spirit. If you have video experience (HD MiniDV PAL and Final Cut Pro, writing) all the better, but we are doing this to perhaps expand the focus of our documentary which is based on the mystical aspects of Alexander the Great - Title: Force of Evidence. Creative people get free reign as long as they don't sink the ship or the project. We are interested to add some human interest...profound, provocative, funny...to the program, so film making experience in not a requirement. Come for a week or two months. Email me for details.

I'm thinking of using it for a year or so, cruise the Bosphorus, Greek Islands, Med. It has 7 double staterooms, all with their own head, shower. I have a couple (Tantra master and his partner personal coach, healer, mentor) who are interested in running teachings on the boat...come for a week or a month or whatever, cruise coastal ports. The cost would be about $500 a week, food, wine, all included, any time of the year. I was in Turkey and Greece most of last winter and it was great. Very cozy. I go back and forth to Paris. If there is any interest we'll figure out how to make it happen.

I'll be taking the train from either Milan or Liguria (maybe Ventimiglia). My question: does anyone know how long of a trip it'll be across southern France to the Spanish border? Or maybe if it would be worthwhile to spend a night in France? I haven't traveled to this part of France in a really long time, but the last time I went through the Cote d'Azure I ended up sleeping under a bush somewhere because I couldn't afford to rent a room. Any suggestions?

Also, has anyone been to the Basque area of Spain? Or to Valencia on the other side? Any preferences?

My impression, from a couple of friends living there & a recent visit, is that the lower rent + cost of living when compared with say, NY, LA and Amsterdam, means slightly lower wages than the 40-50 USD/Euros per hour that is standard in these places....And I don't want to shock them (well, not *too* much anyway;-) with my application. Y tambien, mi espagnol no es bonito (pero el reclamo y el website son en ingles)

My friend and I will be visiting Ireland, England, Whales, and Scotland. Someone mentioned to me that some seminaries or cloisters rent out rooms and it's pretty inexpensive. does anyone know how I can find more information about staying in places like these.

I also heard you can rent out rooms in castles. As incredible as that sounds does anyone know if there is a heafty price tag with it. I would love to find some not so normal places to stay thats off the beaten path and something different.

Any suggestions. everyone here always has such great ideas.
Thanks

A) What do you miss most about living in the US?

and

B) What do you enjoy most about the culture you have now 'joined' ?

I'm a travel-addict who hasn't gotten a fix in far to long (grad students are poor...) and would love to hear something that a) will make me feel better about being 'stuck' in SF until June and b) fodder my travel-dreams.
Cheers,

Ok I'm all booked up and ready to FLY again in two weeks.. for two weeks... in 3 CITIES!! Firstly from Rome to Paris on Thursday the 29th of September for 'La Nuit Blanche'. This year will be the FIRST TIME I get to see both the Roman version (this weekend), and the original (and undoubtedly BEST) Parisian instalment of this stultifying Cultural Event where ALL the Galleries, Museums and assorted Exhibition Halls of each city are not only open ALL NIGHT LONG, but are also totally FREE to get in!! I then fly from Paris to London on the 3rd of October for a few days to chill out with old friends, and perhaps even catch up with a few NEW ones. On Saturday the 8th I fly to Amsterdam (my third, or maybe even FOURTH home away from home) to party Dutch-style with another lot of friends. I then fly back to London on the 11th, and finally head back to Rome on the 13th... just in time for LUNCH!

It goes without saying that if anyone living in these 3 glorious cities wants to catch up for drinky-poohs... I'm totally IN!!
